Licence to kill?

Posted on

The Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR)has applied for a permit under section 17 of the Endangered Species Act, 2007 to allow Gilead Power Corporation to kill, harm and harass Blanding’s Turtle and Whip-poor-will as well as damage and destroy the habitat of Whip-poor-will for the purpose of the development and operation of Ostrander Point Wind Energy Park in the Township of South Marysburgh, Prince Edward County.

Please take time to read the actual posting (EBR Registry Number 011-3181, above). As you will see the posting on the EBR explicitly states that this permit is “to allow Gilead Power Corporation to kill, harm and harass Blanding’s Turtle and Whip-poor-will as well as damage and destroy the habitat of Whip-poor-will”.

This posting was downloaded to the EBR registry on May 10 and it will remain on the registry until June 9. We have until June 9 to respond and we urge you to respond. Please consider doing so as every individual response counts as a vote against this truly unbelievable posting.

Clearly this posting to the EBR must not be allowed to fall under the radar. As it was noted in the previous e-mail this permit, if granted, would in effect provide Gilead Power with a license to kill. We encourage you to forward the press release (in the previous post) to your family and friends. You may also wish to make your views known to various MPPs and others who are noted in the South Shore Conservancy brochure. Their names are also available on the South Shore Conservancy facebook page. Or you can e-mail us and we will be happy to provide you with this information.
